P4 Webquest on Life Cycles of Animals

Designed by Mdm Kow Hui Meng

Introduction

Have you ever thought about how certain animals develop?  Are they born or hatched from eggs?  What are the different stages of their life cycle?    By the end of this webquest, you will discover the answers to these questions.  You and your team will be working together to research the life cycles of some animals. Your group will then present your findings to the class through a PowerPoint presentation.

Task

1.    You will be placed in groups of four. Each group will choose a different animal to research on its life cycle.

2.    You will work together to gather as much information as possible about each animal's life cycle using the web links provided, text books, encyclopedias, and other resources in the library.

Process

1.    Select an animal for your research. Then click on the links to go to the different websites for your research.

2.    Find answers to the following questions about each animal:

·         What are the different stages of the animal's life cycle?

·         What are some interesting facts you have discovered about its life cycle?

·         What impact does each of these animals have on our environment?

3.    Write your findings about the animal’s life cycle on your notefact sheets. You can also save graphics on the different stages of the life cycle for use in your PowerPoint later.

4.    Discuss your findings as a group. Group members should help one another to understand the information gathered.

5.    Then prepare a group PowerPoint presentation following the guidelines given in the PowerPoint Presentation Rubrics.

6.    Share your PowerPoint presentation with the class.

Conclusion

I hope you have enjoyed this assignment. You have now learned that all animals progress through some type of life cycle. However, not all animals share the same life cycle.  I hope you have gained a better understanding of life cycles and why they are important in animal development.
