Pupils taking the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) will be streamed to one of the following secondary courses based on their results. This flowchart seeks to help you understand the main differences between them.

Academic	Technical
will take English + MT + Academic subjects	will take English + Basic MT + Technical subjects

will sit for GCE "O"
at the end of 4^th year

will sit for GCE "N"
at the end of 4^th year

Qualify
to enter 5^th yr

will sit for
GCE "O"
at the end
of 5^th year

Do not qualify
to enter 5^th yr

proceed to
ITE

Note: Pupils in the top 10 % of the PSLE cohort who are good in languages and are also very good in their other subjects may be offered a third language: German, French, Japanese or Malay Elective, subject to the availability of places.
